My Story

I possess a diverse and extensive background in various industries, showcasing a wealth of experience and expertise in safety management. My early career in the mining industry involved hands-on roles as a surveyor and mine engineer, which included the heavy construction experience in road building, tailings dam construction and plant expansions. During this time, I actively participated in the mine rescue team, learning the critical importance of proper chemical handling and emergency response protocols, particularly with substances like cyanide and strong acids.

I have contributed to public safety as a volunteer firefighter, gaining firsthand experience in dealing with motor vehicle incidents and structure fires arising from poor safety practices.

In the Sawmill industry, I played a pivotal role in observing and evaluating the impact of Behavior-Based Safety programs, while facilitating programs and training observers. My journey extended into heavy construction, where I oversaw site safety on significant, multi-million-dollar construction projects.

As the Director of Safety and Environment for a large Biofuel Company, overseeing seven operating divisions and a Federal Port facility, I solidified my experience in managing safety on a large scale.

Over the last eight years, I have concentrated on sharing my wealth of knowledge on safety management and specific expertise in combustible dust hazards and controls. Collaborating with companies in the manufacturing and food processing industries across the province, I have been instrumental in improving their safety performance. This has involved assisting in establishing safety programs, providing employee training, and mentoring safety personnel to achieve site-specific safety goals, COR certification, or continuous improvement.

My educational background includes a diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, and I have continuously maintained my Certification and Professional Development as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) since 2010, reflecting my commitment to staying current in the field.

In summary, my career journey and commitment to safety management underscore my contributions to the safety field. As a seasoned professional with a comprehensive understanding of safety concepts and applications I can provide guidance that has a proven track record of enhancing safety performance in diverse settings. My goal is to elevate the effectiveness of workplace safety systems so that employees can return home to their families uninjured, every day.
